Short answers to the questions people ask about Calavion. Each answer is written to stand on its own.
The product
What is Calavion?
Calavion helps employers see how applicants handle real work. A company brings work it has handled, Calavion prepares an exercise from it with the company, applicants work through it, and the employer reads a Replay, a record of what the applicant did, and decides.
What is a Replay?
The record an employer receives after an applicant works an exercise: what was available, what the applicant did, what changed and what stayed open. It is not a video or a screen capture. See Replay and the definitions.
How is this different from a take-home task?
See Work samples, job simulations, take-home assignments and real-work hiring for a comparison of what each one asks of the applicant and what the reviewer sees.
Does Calavion connect to my applicant tracking system?
Calavion has no live integrations you can use today.
Does it work for remote hiring?
Applicants work through a link in a web browser, so location does not matter to the exercise. We have not studied remote hiring.
Ranking, scoring and AI
Does Calavion rank or score applicants?
Calavion does not give applicants an overall score, generate an ordered shortlist, or recommend whom to hire. The employer orders its shortlist; the software checks that order against approved criteria and asks for a reason where it conflicts.
Where an employer has approved criteria, the software can report for each one whether the record shows it was done, was not done, needs a person to read it, or could not be checked, and link the moments. It does not combine these into a score.
Does Calavion use AI to judge applicants?
Calavion’s findings and its check of an employer’s shortlist are rule-based and use no language model. People read what applicants wrote.
Is Calavion fair or unbiased?
We make no claim that Calavion is fair or unbiased, and we have not studied it. What we can describe is what it does: applicants who are compared with each other worked the same approved version of the exercise, the employer reads a Replay of what each one did, and people at the employer make the decision. See Evidence and status.
Does it predict how well someone will do the job?
We make no such claim, and we have no study showing that it does. See Evidence and status and the research plan.
Applicants and their data
What is recorded about an applicant?
From the applicant notice: “Everything you write and every action you take is recorded.” “Calavion does not record your screen or webcam.” As of 2026-10-20, Calavion records the text an applicant sends and the actions they take, with timing. It does not capture keystrokes as typed, paste events, or switches between tabs or windows.
Who sees an applicant’s record, and how long is it kept?
“The employer that invited you sees this record, called a Replay.” “Calavion has not set a fixed period for how long the record is kept.” If you have questions about your data, ask the employer who sent you the link.
Can an applicant see their own Replay?
Not today. The Replay is an employer-side view, and the applicant sees a closing screen. Questions about their record go to the employer who sent the link.
Can an applicant decline?
A session does not start until the applicant acknowledges the notice, so declining means not starting. After starting there is no self-serve deletion. Data questions go to the employer.
What does Calavion cost?
Plans start at $49 a month, and launch access is free for our first three companies. Setting up an exercise from your own work is a one-time $290 per exercise. See Pricing.
Evidence and status
What evidence is there that it works?
Evidence and status says what exists, what we do not yet have, and how we label evidence.
