Customer support and success roles
Customer-facing roles are judged on what someone does with a record, a promise and a rule, not only on what they say. These guides cover six of them.
Try CalavionWhat does real-work assessment look like for customer support and success roles?
Support and success work is mostly written decisions: read the history, check what the company allows, decide what to promise and say what happens next. That is why a real handled case, such as a cancellation that was promised and never completed, shows more than a list of interview answers.
The six roles below share that written core and differ in what the case contains. A technical support case turns on logs and a security procedure. A customer success case turns on usage and renewal risk. Each role guide has its own scenario, skills table and questions.
Status in one line
Calavion has run one exercise end to end, a customer service cancellation case. For every other role on this page, Calavion would build the exercise with your company from a case your team has handled.
What you review
A Replay: what was available, what the applicant did and wrote, what changed and what stayed open. Calavion does not score or rank applicants. You decide.
Which customer support and success roles have a guide?
Each guide has its own scenario, skills, questions and limits. Open the one that matches the role you are hiring.
| Role guide | Typical work | Example scenario in the guide | What needs another method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer service assessment | Order, refund and cancellation handovers | The cancellation that never happened | Live chat and phone are not covered |
| Call center assessment | Written contact-center work | The same cancellation case | Voice, listening and typing speed are not covered |
| Technical support assessment | Tickets, account logs and security procedures | A login that will not work | Hands-on troubleshooting is not covered |
| E-commerce customer support assessment | Orders, returns and refunds | A parcel marked delivered | Live chat speed and platform skills are not covered |
| Customer success manager assessment | Renewals, usage risk and account handovers | A renewal at risk | Customer calls and business reviews are not covered |
| Account manager assessment | Change requests, contract limits and handovers | A mid-term change request | Account calls and reviews are not covered |
Which skills do these roles share?
The skills below appear in several guides on this page. Each guide shows how they look in that role.
| Skill | Why it matters in these roles | What the employer would see in Replay |
|---|---|---|
| Reading the history before replying | Every role here starts from a record, ticket, order or account history | Which records the applicant opened, and in what order |
| Not promising what the rules do not allow | Refunds, credits, unlocks and contract changes all have limits | Whether a promise matched the rule the applicant had in front of them |
| Clear, kind written messages | Customers and clients read what is sent, word for word | The messages the applicant wrote |
| Escalation judgment | Knowing what goes to a lead, and with what notes | Whether and when the applicant escalated, and what they included |
| Handover notes | Someone else picks up the case | What the applicant left open, and whether it was named |
Support roles
Customer service, call center, technical support and e-commerce support work from a ticket, order or log. The question is usually what to do, check and say to one customer with one problem.
Account roles
Customer success and account management work across a relationship over time. The question is usually what to read, whom to contact and what not to promise as a renewal or a change request approaches.
What does Calavion not cover in these roles?
Live chat, phone calls and voice quality; typing speed; hands-on troubleshooting; and customer calls or business reviews. Calavion does not record voice or video, so those need another method.
Use another method for those, alongside a written exercise. Each guide lists the common alternatives. See also where Calavion applies and what makes work suitable.
Customer support and success roles: common questions
Short answers about assessing customer support and success roles.
Which customer support and success roles can Calavion assess?
The guides on this page cover customer service, call center, technical support, e-commerce customer support, customer success manager and account manager. Only the customer service cancellation case has been built and run so far. For the others, Calavion would build the exercise with your company.
Can one exercise assess several of these roles?
No. Each role needs its own case, because the records, rules and consequences differ. The skills overlap, so a case built for one role can inform the next, but Calavion does not reuse one exercise across roles.
Does Calavion assess voice or live chat?
No. Calavion’s environment is built around written cases with records and message threads. It does not record voice or video, so phone and live chat skills need a role-play or a live task.
